4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

I started to think about what sort of audience would go watch the movie that my group was making. The target audience is a key part for the making of the movie as we want them to be engaged throughout the duration of the movie.

Why would certain audiences like my movie? 


Many would like the thriller and horror elements of the movie. These genres display both similar and differences when applying to their respective audiences. Horror's design is meant to shock audiences and scare them. This could be perhaps using imagery that is perhaps horrific in order for audiences to feel a sense of uneasiness. Horror's main aim is to scare people at some point and primarily appeals to a teenage demographic. Whereas a thriller is designed to hold people's intrigue through suspense and its story line. This could be perhaps the use of "twists" in the story line. It could also be through the use of action and is generally more based in reality whereas most horror movies tend to have some sort of supernatural element to them. 

Due to the violent nature and horror/thriller, we would think that generally elderly people would not be fans of the movie because of these themes.  I would say that the age for our movie would be between 16 and 45. However, I reckon both genders would enjoy it as both genders tend to enjoy mysteries and thrillers, even if women are turned off by some of the horror elements presented throughout the movie. 

What other media products would my audience watch and what would they do in their leisure time? 

They are likely to watch TV shows such as Twin Peaks, True Detective, Broadchurch and American Horror Story. In terms of movies, they're likely to watch things such as Se7en, Shutter Island, Chinatown and Drive.

In their leisure time, primarily our younger audience would play video games such as Bioshock and Fallout  and watch movies in their spare time. They would go to places such as MacDonalds, Pizza Express, Starbucks and Costa. For clothes, they would go to places such as Jack Wills and Hollister. For media, they'll use devices such as Apple products and Android phones.They would also use Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter to connect with friends. They would also read magazines such as NME, Empire and Total Film.
